I buy my brushes when they are on sale. A good brand is Princeton. They will last you a long time.

Camera
Stretched Canvases or Gesso Boards for Oils or Acrylics by Ampersand - Use small sizes when practicing. Another inexpensive option for painting surface is to Gesso on Bristol paper or watercolor paper. These paintings look very nice framed under glass.
Palette: Plexi-glass, glass and wood are preferable. I use an easel companion. These allow you to close your palette, which keeps your paints pliable.
